Thoughts for Canberra
I have five people close to me in Canberra, four good friends and my mother. Since Saturday, one has been evacuated, one has been on high alert and another is in Downer, which is presently on alert. The Mt Stromlo Observatory, an observatory so famous and historic that even I've heard of it, lies in ruins. The weather today wasn't as bad as feared, but I hear the forecast is for high temperatures and high winds, weather not generally considered conducive to controlling bush fires. Canberra could be in for a destructive weekend.

I can't do much from Narrogin except keep an eye on the news, make a phone call or two, and send everyone my most hopeful wishes and thoughts. Hang in there.

The website that scares me most right now is http://www.esb.act.gov.au/media/bushfire.htm.

Nail 'em all up
Gotta love them of the christian faith. Was walking down the main street of Narrogin this afternoon, and saw a car parked in the disabled bay. My biggest peev is the fully able though lazy and inconsiderate (socially crippled but not bona fide disabled) parking in disabled bays. Just hate it, I usually have to be restrained from kicking headlights in and stuff. So I check this car out, looking on the dashboard for the nice blue ACROD sticker that makes me smile.

Wasn't there. The dash was clean.

However something else caught my eye. Dangling from the rear view mirror on a nice chain was that symbol we all know well: that carpenter nailed to a cross. This wasn't a plain and simple cross, it had the figure all nailed up nicely the way all christians should be.

Fucking hypocrites. First the Crusades, then the inquisitions, they torture the old and frail Galileo and make him recant all he believes, they do nothing during the holocaust, and here they are, with the nerve to take one of the few disabled bays that Narrogin has when they could have easily found somewhere else to park and walked the extra 2 minutes.

Fucking hypocrites.
