Sigh
Australia worries me more and more every day. Today the Federal Employment Minister mal brough admitted that the work for the dole scheme was all about changing the attitudes of long-term unemployed people, not about training them with skills for the workforce. How fucked is that. That's saying we want to provide some slave labour for our mates and make the unemployment stats look better, who cares if you're on the scheme forever because you haven't learnt anything that would make you employable in the real workforce.
I'm a socialist at heart, I believe that everyone has an obligation to society and that society has an obligation to everybody. The whole right wing side does sound more appealing, though, I really wish I could be a self-serving wanker and only believe in helping myself and other self-serving wankers. Things would be so much better. You meet someone who can't afford to spend $15 a meal (as it's their food budget for the week), all you need to do is say, "Fuck off, you're poor! It's your own fault!" Who would need to care about others?
Sometimes I wish I could take the easy road.

So much news
Over the next few days I'll try and be as regular as I can, as there are events and issues I can't let slip without passing comment. These include Colombia, possible war, and the general state of politics in Australia. More soon.

It's time
The Australian Prime Minister, little john howard, has signalled in his latest stunt that he has not even the slightest respect for democracy. First he joins a campaign waged mostly by a blood-thirsty empire-building tyrant against a minor piss-pot dictator, and now by cancelling question time Australia's very unrepresentative leader (who didn't move out of home until he was 32) has just lost the plot.
And let's not mention the abominable and inhumane stand on asylum seekers, where the minister for immigration phillip ruddock gets to play Heinrich Himmler.
It's time for economic sanctions against Australia. I think the French should refuse to send us wine, the Italians suits, the Swedish and Russians vodka, the Japanese tourists and the German's cars. Let's see how long Australia would last.
It's time for Australia to reap what it has sown.

Fires, part II
Quick follow up to the earlier post on the Canberra fires. There is no foreseeable danger and all are safe and well. Damn fine.

Justice
I saw Justice done on the weekend. Liz was driving home from Perth back to Narrogin on Sunday afternoon when we were overtaken by one of those family 6 cylinder wankermobiles, Ford Falcon/Holden Commodore it doesn't really matter which. We were doing pretty close to the speed limit, +/- 2 km/h, and the way this other car overtook us meant they myst have been travelling at least 120 km/h. I noticed the licence plate, 1ANK ###, which I thought was pretty damn appropriate, cos it almost spells WANKER.
About 70 km down the road we pass our friends in the wankermobile. They're by the side of the road, a police car behind them with flashing lights, and the nice peace officer has his pen out and is writing something down that I assume wasn't a ticket to the police ball. I turn and make sure, and yep, that wonderful 1ANK ### licence plate on display for all to see.
Narrogin is 20 km down the road and surprisingly enough, the wankermobile had caught up with us by the time we hit the outskirts of town. Just as well we'd slowed down as I can only imagine the wankers plowing through the children playing tennis in the street without a second thought. I got a good look at them, too, 40-50 year olds, not your usual 18 year-old statistic wannabees.
But we got back to Narrogin before them, and they got a ticket.
Justice.

Nineteen Forever
I turned 30 over the weekend. My mind wanted a big night out but sadly my body gave up early.
