I missed
Got a refund today for the cancelled play. Apparently it wasn't cancelled due to low sales, but due to one of the lead actors (it's a 2 actor play) took very ill and has been hospitalised. So I jumped to a rather erroneous conclusion.

Still, not many tickets were sold, so the community really didn't show the hugest support. The cancellation was broadcast on radio yesterday and if Liz and I were the only people who didn't hear until we turned up at the hall, I doubt 50 tickets were sold.

Still, I'm off to see The Angriest VIdeo Store Clerk up in Perth on Friday night, so I'll get a dose of theatre this year.

Old Fashioned Donkey Times
Liz's friend Kate has been so kind to let her DVD copy of some episodes of Drop the Dead Donkey out of her possession. I don't know if she'll get it back. Watching it brough back memories, good memories. I loved that show, with its fine chatacterisation, great acting, witty political commentary and downright bitchiness. They don't make teevee like that anymore.

Cancelled due to popular demand
Liz and I were supposed to be going to see Black Swan Theatre Company's production of "The Island" this evening at the Narrogin Town Hall. But it was cancelled. We got there only to find the place looking dark and empty, and big "Cancelled" signs across the advertising posters.

It's that vicious circle surrounds country towns like Narrogin. It starts with the complaint, "We miss out on all the good things". Which is true, in my time here the least distance I've had to travel to see entertainment of note is 59km to Wagin to see The Blackeyed Susans.

The reason that country towns miss out on so much is because if an opportunity arises, no one goes. The local community really fail to get behind touring shows, bands and other events that don't involve cars and/or tractors and sheep. No one comes from miles around, in fact. And so they miss out. But what do I know, I'm just a city blow-in.
