sorry?
Apparently jess sinclair has been on the phone to Lance Piccioane today to apologise for taking him out and leaving him with a fractured cheekbone and the prospect of surgeons inserting a plate into his face. Read about it here.

The article says that jess needed counselling after the game over what he'd done.

IT's a bit bloody late. jess, you were a grade-a 100% dickhead and hopefully you're going to have to face up to it at the tribunal. And no saying sorry, no counselling, and no crocodile tears should be allowed to sway them. I reckon you're a remorseless bastard and deserve a goodly long time on the sidelines thinking about your crime and what you're supposed to do with your elbows. Here's a couple of pointers:

1. Elbows should be kept off the table while you're eating (you know, them funny cutlery things);
2. Elbows should not be used to hit a player on a football field.

Have a couple of games rest and practice tucking in those elbows.

And Lance, hope you're back on the field soon.

more football
Just caught the last quarter of the Brisbane/Swans match, some definite excitement there. I feel a lot for the Lions fans, having so often seen Hawthorn this year piss away a solid half-time lead.

Watching this great game over the weekend has really made me wonder about the worth and ability of the umpires out there. I'll say it here, because everyone else (coaches, players, commentators) seem to pussy foot around talking about the men in the centre. As far as I can see, horrific injuries (such as Lance Piccioane's fractured cheekbone) will continue as long as the umpires continue to do nothing to protect the man in front, the guy who's going for the ball. Players are going to keep getting hurt because the umpires are doing their best to keep a free-flowing game, where if a person with eyes only for the ball gets a thump, a push in the back or maybe concussion from a high tackle, well that's considered to be part-and-parcel of the game.

Bloodsport for all.

we're a happy team at Hawthorn
Saw chunk of the game tonight and am happy at the way we thumped North Melbourne. Couple of unhappy incidents, jess sinclair committing the sort of thuggery only kevin sheedy could justify, though I'm sure that dean laidley will do his best to umm and ahh around it. Hopefully a video charge will bench the vicious motherf*cker for the rest of the season, the sad, pathetic coward that he is. I was in a room of 6 people who all saw that elbow go up and deliberately make contact, and if you think otherwise then maybe it's time for you to get them eyes checked or start web surfing with two hands. And then the umpires give a gimme free kick to some North Melbourne clown for slapping Spider Everett. Just shows they were only watching half the game.

Poor decisions from the umpires and infantile thuggery from jess sinclair are bringing a great game into disrepute.

homework
Well, after weeks of procrastination I finally put together a very basic website for the Narrogin Agricultural Show. It's not up yet, as I have to get someone at the Town of Narrogin to do this, but let me assure you, it's kinda ugly. I might go back and fix it up later, but right now it's just words and purple backgrounds.

On the plus side, however, the whole site is about 35 kb so it'll load fast.

Murder and Mayhem
Spent a chunk of Sunday researching the Batavia story -- and have managed to go from the wreck and mutiny to notorius Perth serial killer Eric Edgar Cooke in 5 difficult and very counter-intuitive steps. Which means the story is coming together in a jim dandy kinda way.

One thing this experience has taught me is just how easy it is to research some of WA's past. I always shied away from this before because I thought it'd be hard to get the material, but there's a stack out there at the Battye and around the place.

A bit more reading and I think I'm ready to write the sucker. Stay tuned.
