happy hallowe'en, losers!
I recall blogging somewhere how google ranks me somewhere near a punk rocker costume. Well over the last few days I've had a bunch of hits from people searching for "punk rocker costume". It just clicked -- it's All Hallow's Eve tonight and these losers want to go out dressed as punks. Oh get a life! If you've come here looking for a costume to scare your hippie friends then I wallow in your disappointment. Try sticking a bucket over your head or something.

sneak preview
A snippet from the cricket story in progress...
--
“Last guy to go was Dean Newman in ’56. Sold everything and bought a cabin on one of those ships that constantly tour the galaxy. Best damn fast bowler we’ve had for years. See this?” Mick Senior pointed to a jagged scar just above his left eye. “Bastard hit me with a bouncer I didn’t even see, knocked me out cold. And that was in me own backyard.”

here's the scene...
Dramatis Personae: Lee Battersby (played by Grant Watson), Sean Williams (played by Robin Pen), Russell B. Farr (played by a goldfish in a bowl)

[Sean Williams enters stage left.]

Sean: Hey DB!
RBF: (bubble bubble)
Sean: Nice castle you've got there!
RBF: (bubble bubble)

[Lee Battersby enters right.]

Lee: Hey Sean!
Sean: Hey Lee!
(They shake hands followed by big manly hugs)
Lee: Hey Russell! Sold any stories yet?
RBF: (bubble bubble)
Lee: How about that dragon story, I reckon you're a chance at a Ditmar with that one?
RBF: (bubble bubble)
Lee: So Sean, how's life on the Lucas ranch?
Sean: Very busy, you know how it is. I've got five books to writ this year, seven next year, and five so far the year after that. And I need to get my haircut every 3 weeks! It's a challenge to find the time.
Lee: Just do what I did, and stop shaving.
Sean: Nah, couldn't do it. I mean the facial hair is okay for you and Russ here, but it doesn't suit everyone. I tried to grow a goatee, but it looked dafter than Grant Watson's!
Lee: Oh that's tragic.
Sean: Tell me about it/ I couldn't even face my life-sized Keanu cut-out for weeks! I kept thinking he was smirking at me.

[Russell jumps out of fish bowl and starts flopping around on the floor.]

Sean: Hey DB!

and now the news
In Australian Parliament today a Liberal Senator referred to the Greens as being like Nazis for the way they heckled dubya on his recent visit. I don't believe the Senator in question (whose name I can't remember and can't be bothered looking up) has a clue about history. I'd like him to explain what made him come to this conclusion. Surreal or stupid, I'm not sure.

And the other bit of news is that it looks like the Australian Government are going to be able to sell off one of their last assets, Telstra. Heck if I had something that was making money and would continue to make money, and I was a government, the last thing I'd do is sell it. At themoment the Australian Democrats are all opposed to this sale at present, but then again they were once opposed to the introduction of the goods and services tax. They caved that time, and I'm predicting they'll cave again. Whoever gave a bunch of spineless wimps the balance of power?

if you've got a blacklist I want to be on it
If only I lived in America. Just when I can't think less of the place, they do something right for a change. Take this site, NRAblacklist.com, it's brilliant. A list where people can sign up to be included on the blacklist the NRA keeps of all those people who hold stupid beliefs like banning automatic weapons and making gun stores liable for what happens after they've put a deadly weapon with only one use in the hands of a nutcase.

I'd sign up myself but you have to live in the U.S.

Dazza!
First recommendation is a chap who goes by the moniker of Darren Hanlon. A quite, generally unassuming guy who writes songs for my generation, songs of beta video recorders, crushes, bicycles and strange housemates. Just straight out good lyrics, simple tunes and the bare-minumum of production. Check him out at Candle Records.

Shut up!
3,000 people have protested at SBS's Sydney studios because SBS televise the state-rune Vietnamese news. Here's the ABC report. They claim the program is "offensive propaganda which has no value to Vietnamese migrants in Australia".

Seems a little misguided really. Maybe they have a point, I've never watched the show and probably wouldn't understand a word if I did. But I'd rather seem them broaden their efforts, picketing the commercial stations which bring us american news shows that may as well be state run for all that's left of freedom of speech in that country. Let's protest against shows that are offensive propaganda which have no value to anyone in Australia.

exciteable boy
There's a bit of a discussion happening on the discussion board about music and dead people. This year's had a fair toll: Johnny Cash, Warren Zevon, Elliott Smith, Edwin Starr, Nina Simone, Noel Redding, Mickie Most, Barry White, Slim Dusty, Robert Palmer, among others (for a comprehensive list, try here).

Even so, there are still a bunch of fine songwriters out there. I'll recommend a couple after I've done my laundry.

punk rocker punk rocker punk rocker punk rocker punk
Forty-three people visited this site yesterday, and most came here after searching for punk rocker. I'd love to know if these people are repeat offenders or just come once, say "what the fuck?" and bolt for the haven of someone with a safety pin through their nose.

it's time
I don't know what it is, but I haven't done a lot of writing here in Northam. I'd have thought it would be ideal, as there's not much else for me to do. But maybe the lack of external stimuli is a problem. There's not enough change in my environment, everything around me is fairly non-challenging.

But tonight's a writing night. I hope.

Oh yeah, Dubya made another speech about how someone out there "hates our freedom", and that's why they're blowing things up in Iraq. He says this all the time, but when will he finish the sentence:

"They hate our freedom to come and meddle in their affairs of state, with force if necessary."

I believe in justice
I've got a fair few songs in my collection. There have been times in my life where I've simply bought lots of CDs. Which is a good thing, as music is keeping me sane up here in Northam.

My favourite song of the minute is by New Model Army, called "Vengeance". It's got a good solid bassline and beat, kind of similar to early V.Spy V.Spy. And a great chorus:

"I believe in justice, I believe in vengeance, I believe in getting the bastard, getting the bastard, getting the bastard"

Picking this song had nothing to do with yesterday's posts, it's just a great song.

And also, rest assured, if I find out about anyone covering up this sickening event, I'll take them to task, too.

trial by internet
It's been a night where I've had several opportunities to question my belief in the truth. This weekend I found out the name of the perpetrator of the bird murder at the Cuballing Golf Club, and toyed for a while with the idea of releasing the name onto this blog.

Instead I have informed the RSPCA. I'd hate to be responsible for creating any loopholes by revealing his name before the murdering bastard can be brought to justice.

But I'll keep my ears out, and if it turns out that nothing eventuates legally I'll scream blue murder across the internet. I'll do all I can to ensure the world finds out about what this sick, criminally disturbed shit has done.

you don't have to live like a refugee
Went down to Narrogin on the weekend. Caught up on the local goss. Apparently a stupid, criminally-minded minority went overboard and fucked up a perfectly good muck-up day for everything. Their room-temperature IQ's concocted to fill the fountain with cement, the oval with round-up and the halls with human excrement. Several perpetrators have been caught and charged by police, and I for one hope the rotten shits cop hell for their actions. I mean, whatever happened to eggs and flourbombs? Detergent and dropping a bloo-loo into the fountain. Fun, harmless stuff. Instead, the useless, brainless pricks trash the place and the kids who just wanted to have fun have to clean up after them.

But I've got a solution. If we start with the idea that the no-brainers aren't likely to graduate (I sure as hell wouldn't graduate them if I was the school, but then again Narrogin Senior High School are also useless when it comes to discipline), you could safely say that the useless turds are on their way to being a drain on our society. They've had their chance and have pissed away 12 years of education for a life that probably won't amount to much. On the other hand, up in Port Hedland and out at Woomera are a bunch of people who'd love nothing more than a chance to live in Australia, to have a fresh beginning. And I say let's give them one. If the Government is worried these people are going to come and take the jobs/food/whatever away from "Australians", then let's do a swap.

Let's take these useless turds and swap them for a family from Iraq, Iran or wherever.

What do you say?
