push it real good
For the first time since Halloween, I got over 20 hits the other day. Twenty-two to be precise. Even got a couple of deluded people looking for Evanescence pics and stuff on John Birmingham. But generally I get about 15 hits a day, and I'd guess most are regular readers, most with blogs of their own. (See what fun you can do when you get a counter, Simon? You too can write dreary posts about almost nothing.)

But, if I get 15 a day for the next couple of days, then I'll rack up my 2000th hit since I installed the counter, which was about six months after I first started blogging. Conversely, I could boot up my version of Mozilla and hit refresh a lot, it seems to have something about setting of counters on every visit. But that would just take the fun out of the achievement.

My hit rate here is about double the present rate of the Ticonderogaonline site, which is a bit of a disappointment. Still, we're getting 4 hits a day and we haven't published a word of original fiction yet -- though I did coin a new word, "ticonderogapalooza". Roll on March I'd expect things to fire up a little on that front.

Speaking of ticonderogapalooza, a great book I'll be reviewing in the March issue is The Resurrection Man's Legacy by Dale Bailey. It's reminiscent of the stunning Jack Cady collection, The Night We Buried Road Dog. You owe it to yourself to get a copy.

current stand
Well, I've now got 6 stories out there in the in-boxes of editors. One has been out for over 120 days, while tomorrow two will clock over 100 days out. I'm not too fussed, though, as I've got another 2 stories that I'm working on, plus a couple more ideas to chase up after those ones are out of the way. It's a good feeling.

Oh yeah, and then I need to write that birthday book. Plus I've got 4 reviews to write before March. My poor little fingers are going to need rehab.

Plus I'm also getting ideas for this novel I've been playing with. Hopefully I can get all these out of the way before the assignments start. Well, I know I won't have the novel out of the way, that one I'm putting aside the best part of June to work on, but if I get another 2 stories out before the end of February I'll be happy. If I hear back positively from any editors before then I'll be even happier.

And Gong Xi Fa Cai (Go Chop Kok, Hoo Flung Dung, or whatever it is) to y'all. All the best for the Year of the Monkey.

news on the radio
Well I've emailed out my birthday plans for the 31st. If you haven't received one email me and I'll forward it right along (unfortunately my invite mailing list is a little out of date, in a present state of evolution etc - one day I'll get it organised).

Am also putting together a little booklet for the evening of my Hottest 131 songs. Drop me a line if you want a copy.

Jack Cady R.I.P. One of those rare writers who could fashion an incredibly wonderful character-driven story, submersing you completely in the protagonist, giving you an insight into the mind of another. A sad loss. Read an obituary here.
