Saw my second amateur repertory (however you spell it) production tonight, the Williams' Rep doing "Are You Being Served?" For 25 bucks I kind of thought I was being conned, but the dinner was good. Liz's neighbour was good, too -- she may not know it but she's a character actor, the sort who can come on and steal a scene. The guy playing Mr Humphries had good timing, too. But the rest of the show, well it was a bunch of actors doing their best against a tide of poor direction: poor choice of play, poor pacing (first act was all one scene, second act wasn't), and the director really didn't understand comedy. The role of the director includes bringing the best out of your actors, which she clearly didn't. Still, it wasn't like there was a lot else to do this evening, unless I wanted to crash my neighbour's party.

Someone in my neighbourhood is having a party, or at least I hope that's the reason for playing so much crap music so loud. Back to back "Eagle Rock", "Thank God I'm a Country Boy" and "Achy Breaky Heart". The things you hear when you don't have a gun.
